Great service! The staff were very friendly and helpful with questions about where is recommended to go and how to get there.
We stayed in a quadruple room, which was a bit small but large enough for us to get around it. The bathroom was spacious and comfortable.
Location was a bit far from the city center but easily accessible with the tram, which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. ( about 10 minute ride)

I stayed at the Aalborg in mid-May with my other half. It certainly wasn't the worst place I have ever stayed in, but there's no denying it's very basic. Below I've summed up the pros and cons:
Pros
Location in the Pijp district, just across from Sarphatipark, is very convenient. It's about a 40 minute walk to the city centre (i.e. Centraal station) or about 10 minutes by tram, but its very close to the Leidsplein and the Pijp area itself has lots of little eateries and shops.
Tram stops are just around the corner on the next street. The area felt safe and pleasant, plus the Sarphatipark and Albert Cuyp market are both minutes from the hotel.
Check-in and check out procedures were fairly uncomplicated and we were given a free Amsterdam map on check in.
Breakfast is fine; it's 9 Euro each (if not included in your deal) and although there are no cooked options, there's plenty of tea, coffee, cereal, fruit, bread, and some cheese and meats for those who love their continental breakfast.
In our room at least, beds were a proper double and not twins pushed together.
The hotel was very neat, and even after not vacating our rooms until noon one day, we still returned to them having been cleaned.
There is also free wi-fi available in rooms.
Cons
Size is the main downside of this hotel, which is why I'd only recommend it as a base for a few days. I did glimpse larger rooms, but ours (34) was very small, only big enough to fit a double bed with about a foot of space around it, a wardrobe and a small desk. A thin sliding door leads off to the bathroom, so if privacy is an issue with whoever you're staying, this is not the hotel for you.
Also, the bathroom had a bizarre 'half bath' under the shower instead of a tray; this would be fine if it didn't have a slope in it, making it difficult to stand in even before it was wet.
The stairs in the hotel are also incredibly steep and narrow - not for the faint hearted! There is however one small lift if you have particularly heavy luggage.
Staff could be a little more approachable and friendly (just a smile or two!), but no-one was rude.
In short, this is fine as a base if you're going to be out for most of the day. However, for those looking to relax for long periods in their hotel while on holiday, it's not ideal. It's cramped, the walls are thin, and the furnishings, though clean, are more functional than anything else.
