Fantastiskt litet hotell! Bra läge, bra service, fint rum, renoverat med charm, nyrenoverade badrum. Synd att vi bara stannade en natt, hann inte njuta en frukost i den lilla trädgården. Bor där gärna igen!We loved our stay in Nice, and the fact that the hotel was so nice made up for the fact that it rained most of the time we were there!
The building feels like a family home that's been carefully looked after - not that there's children running around, but because the communal room and the bedrooms have obviously been decorated with care. The breakfast room / salon is especially nice - when we got in soaking from the rain one day, they made us a nice cup of tea and we sat down to read the (english) papers, which was just the ticket.
Our bedroom was small but we had a little balcony and the bathroom had a lovely shower too - plus the hotel has wifi so we spent ages sat in bed listening to podcasts and online radio - that was a real bonus.
It's not too far from the centre of town - we walked there every day - and there's some particularly good sweet shops on the way - along museum street. I loved it!In April I had the chance of being twice in Nice during a trip through France. This time I slept 4 nights at the Villa Rivoli a stone throw away from the beach and the Grand Hotel Negresco. A charming town villa with 26 rooms a 4 star Hotel, with a good price value. It feels like you are staying with friends in a historic little mansion. The rooms are not big but large enough to sleep and relax. They are clean and well kept. Even the tiny bathrooms have everything needed.
Only satellite TV is missing, but wireless internet is available for free.
Nice is an "outdoor living City" so I spend most of the time in the open, taking advantage of the perfect location close to Promenade des Anglais. There are tons of eatery places around the Rue Rivoli, I didn´t miss a restaurant in the hotel. The staff is very sufficient, friendly and willing to help in any way. To sum it up: it was a perfect choice to stay at the Villa Rivoli, and I even saved some money to lunch at the Negresco. (Ingrids kommentar, ägarinnan Barbara arbetade tidigare på Negresco. Det var där som jag, Ingrid, lärde känna Barbara, när jag började min hotellbokning 1995)

This hotel was a pleasant experience in many ways. I booked the room through a major online travel site for an amazing price, and therefore found the hotel to be great value. The location is also excellent - a few blocks from the beach as well as from a lovely pedestrianized area along Rue de France; and it's just a 10- or 15-minute walk into the very centre of the city. Buses can be caught from several nearby locations as well. There's a wonderful bakery just down the street where Rue de Rivoli meets Rue de France; the feuillette aux épinards et ricotta is a phenomenon!
The hotel itself has a lot of character and is beautifully maintained. Each room is decorated differently and with nice attention to detail. My room had beautiful French toile wallpaper and lovely hanging pictures, giving the space a wonderful French feel. The bed probably wouldn't be suited to someone taller than about 5'8, but it was comfortable and cozy. All of the staff I encountered at the front desk were friendly and eager to help. However, a few issues prevented my stay from being as good as it could have been.
Part of the charm of this hotel is its older and character-filled building, but this also means poor insulation against noise. There were some issues with street noise and, even more noticeably, noise from within the hotel. My room had a connecting door to the adjacent room. As a result, noise carried between rooms - more so than I have ever experienced at a hotel. You could not tell if a phone ringing was in your room or the next. Earplugs were essential, but even that wasn't sufficient to block out noise. The design of my room was also somewhat unfortunate. There was a frosted glass door between the bedroom and en suite bathroom, which faced the main street. Thus, there was no way to block the light coming from street lamps from entering the bedroom via the bathroom. An eye mask was also essential! A solid door to the bathroom would therefore be helpful, as would addressing a few other issues: the towel rack was positioned far from the bathroom sink (requiring you to step around the shower to reach it), and the shower design resulted in unavoidable overflow of water onto the bathroom floor. Fixing these design elements could make a big difference. Smoking was also an issue in this hotel. Apparently it is meant to be fully non-smoking, but guests do not necessarily honour this rule. The design of my room meant that it was impossible to avoid the cigarette smoke coming from the adjacent room; this is undeniably frustrating if you have intentionally booked a non-smoking location. Finally, I encountered problems with Internet access on my Macbook that could not be resolved (access to sites requiring logins wasn't possible). Staff were as puzzled by this problem as I was, and it seems that it doesn't happen to everyone at the hotel; perhaps it was an issue with my particular laptop, although I have never encountered a problem at a hotel before.
Overall, this a very good hotel with a lot going for it; however, the hotel has the potential for greatness if it could address a few important problems. In the meantime, I would still recommend the hotel because of its charm, location and value - just bring along some earplugs and an eye mask, and hope for respectful neighbouring guests!

Great location, personable staff, amazing price! Hotel rooms in France are always small by American standards, so bear that in mind. I would definitely stay there again!
