Generellt var Hotel Lafayette bra. Rummen, städningen, frukosten,
personalen var bra. Läget är utmärkt. Lena
Mvh Ann-Catrine

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel before in '07 and had no problem with it then, so we stayed again in May '09. I find the price and location appealing, a few minutes walk from the railway station & handy for the tram line, as well as shopping streets. The staff are pleasant and the food quality in the restaurant surpassed my expectations. The lift is small but it works, the shower is small also, but clean and serviced daily with fresh towels as well as the bed sheets changed daily. the top 2 floors seem to be the only ones refurbed. I requested a room to the front on booking, which I got. the front rooms would be a little noisy if not for the double glazing. The room was a bit small and would not suit if one wanted to stay in all day say reading or watching t.v. But if you are just there for sleeping it is fine. And in terms of food and drink services It would appear to offer more than similar priced accommodations in the immediate area.
Overall a pleasant place to stay and the area itself seems much improved since the cul de sacs associated with the tramline construction are now gone.
We stayed at the Hotel Lafayette for nine days in late February 2011. We used Nice as a base for day trips to Antibes, Monaco, Vence, etc. We had reserved a larger double but were upgraded to a triple, probably because the hotel wasn't full at that time of year. The room was enormous and the bathroom was the largest I've seen in a comparable hotel. We had a room facing the main street and if you are bothered by some street noise, request a different room. It doesn't bother us and wasn't that noisy anyway.
We had a problem with the wireless internet at first and the staff worked hard to rectify the problem. They called their IT people to come and check the system. Before that though, the staff went across the street to get the wi fi code from the Hotel Verdun, which we could tap into. There was a desktop computer in the hall which was a nice perk.
We didn't get the 10 Euro hotel breakfast. Every morning we walked around the corner to a fabulous bakery and bought breakfast.
It was an easy walk to the old town where there were many restaurants. We always felt safe. The hotel is near major bus stops (to Monaco, Vence, etc.) and the tram on the Place Massena.
"Comfortable very clean hotel with very friendly hard working staff with a great location."

Look if you are looking for a posh hotel to stay for a week or more this isn't the one but you are going to have to pay lots of money to achieve this. However if you are travelling around the region or staying for a week then consider this one. George the manager and his staff are very friendly and will help you and speak English. The rooms are very clean and the maid was incredible. The first room we were in was facing into a courtyard at the back and the shower area was small but the spin off is that it is quiet and as i say everything is clean. We stayed 8 nights so they moved us to a larger room at the front which was even nicer and still quiet. The location is fantastic - you are close to the airport bus stops, the shops, the restaurants, the old town with it's narrow streets, the railway station, the beach, the harbour, the restaurants - in fact everything. So if you want 5 star pay the money and go somewhere else, but if you want a base then this is the one - think nice bed, powerful shower and clean clean clean. No frillls but very friendly staff. Tips - when you come out of the airport you will find the ticket office for the buses which are also right in front of you. I think its 4 euros to take you into town but the ticket lasts all day. You will soon be on the promenade anglais and you get off at place massena. Walk across the road and bear slightly right and straight ahead. You will soon see the square. Follow one of the tram lines - there is a right angle bend but it's straight ahead in the direction away from the sea that you follow. When you go off the square the hotel is on the first road on the right - rue hotel des postes. On the way back to the airport, head from your hotel towards the square. Bear right down the road when you leave the square to see the albertiere bus stop.
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights.
The location is great. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the famous Promenade des Anglais as well as the Nice-Ville train station and Cours Saleya.
No complaints, no surprises, a great stay.
Free wifi was available in the room.
This is kind of an average hotel, and the best about it is the location. It is only 5 min walk from Square Massena, and really close to a Tram station. There are also a Galleries Lafayette and supermarktes nearby, and a coffee shop is right next door if you feel the hotel breakfast is too expensive. The hotel itself has decent facilities, including a small LCD TV that has a CNN channel. One thing we'd like to point out is that though the staff and manager (owner, maybe?) speak good English and treat customers with courtesy, we could feel deep down their attitude was lukewarm, and did not make us feel like very-welcomed guests. Maybe this is just the way French people are when dealing with English-speaking folks.
